What We Do

The Kavi Shri Dula Kag Memorial Trust is guided by a profound purpose, drawn from our trust deed’s noble objectives. We ignite public interest in Kathiawad’s folk lore and arts, conducting research, publishing works, and nurturing enthusiasts who breathe life into these traditions. Our core mission is to preserve, publish, and promote Kavi Dula Bhaya Kag’s writings, compiling unpublished treasures and offering grants for scholars and students to delve into folk literature. We champion Charni and Pingli folk lore through educational programs, seminars, and research, while exploring India’s great epics like the Mahabharat and Ramayan, with a focus on Charni traditions.

We empower future generations by training students and artists in folk arts, providing them with resources and inspiration. Our efforts extend to cultural tours, competitions, lectures, and events, enriched by the wisdom of invited experts. We offer scholarships and support to underprivileged children, establishing libraries and hostels to foster learning, while providing vocational aid and medical relief to weaker sections during times of need. Through digitization and online platforms, we share Kag’s works and Gujarati folk literature, collaborating with institutions to broaden our reach.

Leading this endeavor is Rajvir Rambhai Kag, our managing director. Following the ancestoral legacy is Ish Rajvirbhai Kag our guiding spirit, whose passion has shaped Kag Sahitya into a beacon of literary heritage. Supported by a dedicated team of trustees and volunteers, we pursue our objectives with unity and resolve.

Our Year-Round Activities & Current Requirements

• Free Diagnostic Camps

  • Regular camps for Diabetes, Eye ailments, Heart diseases, and Dental care.

  • During these camps, free cataract surgeries, intraocular lens implantation, spectacles, and medicines are provided to the needy.

• De-addiction Campaigns

  • Extensive awareness drives in rural areas to help people give up alcohol, opium, ganja, beedi, tobacco, gutkha, and other intoxicants.

• Educational Assistance

  • Free distribution of notebooks, textbooks, and other study materials to economically backward and meritorious students.

• Women Empowerment

  • Vocational training and financial assistance to widows and underprivileged women to help them become self-reliant.

Current Requirements of the Trust

• High-quality recording equipment, laptops, projectors, and sound systems to digitally preserve KagBapu’s rare folk Ramayana recordings and other vanishing folk melodies, and to make them accessible to students and researchers.

• Financial support for educational aid to bright students from economically weaker sections.

• Sponsorship or full/part donation for free medical camps (Eye, Dental, Diabetes, Heart, etc.). Donors may get a camp organised in their name or in memory of a loved one.

• Funds for construction of a girls’ hostel in Bhavnagar for daughters of the Charan (Gadhvi) community.

• Every year the Trust organises grand Lok-Dayro programmes on the birth & death anniversary of KagBapu, where eminent folk artists and scholars share the richness of Gujarati oral tradition with the public.

• Annual competitions in folk songs, folk tales, duha-chhand, and bhajans.

• Platform and guidance for emerging folk artists.

• Scholarships and mentorship programmes to encourage the younger generation to take interest in our vanishing folk culture and literature.
